Student Equipment Monitors

An Active Community
While creating a more active classroom can increase student focus, motivation, and achievement is exciting, having the support of your school or even larger community can make your impact even greater! You are the expert of your own community, but here are some ideas to get your brainstorming juices flowing!
Network of Partners
Is there a community organization that can partner with your school to lend their services to encourage a variety of activities? The LIKES network in Finland there included dance organizations, theater groups, nature schools, and sports groups. Tap into the resources in your own community to tailor the experiences to what you need. Movement can be very broad and students always enjoy having visitors.
more movement for all
In Finland, older students are often the monitors for shared break time equipment. If a student wants to check out a jump rope or a ball they give their ID card with their name to the monitor. At the end of the break they return the equipment and receive their card. It takes some practice, but I have seen it run smoothly and without long lines or bottlenecks. The equipment is not left out in the school area at the end of the break too.
Be Active Week- 100 Challenge
Practice setting goals and working towards them as a school! Each student can choose what they will complete 100 of during the week. It can be a skill such as 100 free-throws or a set time such as 100 minutes of swimming. Students track their activity daily and then at the end of the week share their accomplishments.
